About LPEMS

Lower Providence Community Center (LPCC), d/b/a Lower Providence EMS (LPEMS), began serving the residents of Lower Providence Township as a Community Center when it incorporated in 1955. The original vision of the Community Center was to improve the mental social and physical conditions of the young people of Lower Providence.  The organization also purchased two ambulances to be available in case of an emergency for the sick and injured residents of Lower Providence Township.  The original service started out as a group of community minded volunteers who gave their time to render basic first aid and transport patients to local hospitals in the back of  converted Cadillac station wagons.  The Emergency Medical Service gradually evolved into the professional organization that we are today, providing Advanced Life Support Services (ALS) to Lower Providence Township as well as portions of Upper Providence and Worcester Townships. 

 

Lower Providence EMS provides 911 dispatched EMS services to three municipalities in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania responding to approximately 3,800 calls for service annually. LPEMS operates two stations, with 5 total ambulances all equipped for both ALS and BLS emergencies.  Our Main Station, located at 10 Parklane Drive, Eagleville PA, is staffed 24 hours a day by an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and a Paramedic.  Our second station is located at the Lower Providence Fire Department Substation located on Lark Lane in the Audubon.  This station is staffed by and EMT and Paramedic 18 hours a day, seven days a week from 0600-00:00 hours.

 

Lower Providence EMS is incorporated as a non-profit charitable organization pursuant to Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and is governed by a nine-person Board of Directors.  The Board of Directors are community minded volunteers, who give guidance and provide oversight function on the financial operations as well as the overall operations of the organization. Annually, LPEMS uses an independent, certified accounting firm to conduct a very detailed audit of our finances, prepare our financial statement, and file our IRS 990.  

 

LPEMS employs a full-time Executive Director to manage the day-to-day operations of the organization.  The Executive Director manages the finances, HR tasks, facilities and fleet management, liaison with our third-party billing company/collections group(s), and is a representative for the organization at state, county, and local level interactions.

 

The organization employs a full-time Chief of Operations to oversee the daily operations of the ambulance service.  The Chief of Operations ensures that all EMS Operations are performed according to departmental standard operating guidelines, polices, protocols, and applicable legal requirements established by Federal, State and Locals Standards.          

 

Additionally, the Chief of Operations has regularly scheduled time completing an ambulance crew, as well as covers last minute call outs and open shifts.  The Chief of Operations also responses to incidents to provide on-scene direction during off schedule hours. 

 

LPEMS has a  Deputy Chief and Assistant Chief that preform the role of Duty Officer on a rotating basis.  The officers are available to the crews 24/7 and address any issues that occur during their weekly duty officer rotation.  The Duty Officers also respond to calls and provide on scene support. 

 

Currently, Lower Providence EMS employs 20 Career Paramedics and 19 Career Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT).  The organization also has a total of 6 volunteers.  The certification level of our volunteers’ ranges from CPR only to full state/national certification as an EMT or Advanced EMT.  

 

Lower Providence EMS (LPEMS) operates on a Fiscal Year cycle for administration, however, statistics for records in our patient reporting systems and call log statistics operate on a calendar year basis. Budgeting is conducted in a dual month process of review and adoption, and budgets are earmarked for operations and capital expenditures.
