 STANDBY REQUEST

From time to time, it becomes necessary for a community organization, school, or business to request that an ambulance stage at the scene of a special event, and it has always been the policy of Lower Providence EMS (LPEMS) to provide this valuable service. As you are surely aware, the cost of staffing an ambulance has become increasingly more expensive and it is impossible for our organization to provide this service without compensation. As such, LPEMS has adopted this Stand-by policy which is intended to better service the community and allow us to prepare in advance for your special event.

Definitions

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT):  A first responder trained to care for patients suffering basic life support emergencies, such as falls, fractures, nausea, vomiting or dizziness.

Paramedic:   A first responder who is trained to care for patients suffering from advanced life support emergencies, such as cardiac and/or respiratory events, or serious trauma.

Basic Life Support (BLS) Ambulance:  A fully staffed BLS crew, with two EMT’s, that is capable of handling basic life support emergencies, such as falls, fractures, nausea, vomiting or dizziness. If an emergency exceeds the appropriate level of care for an EMT, the BLS crew will start care and call for the appropriate level of care as needed.

Advanced Life Support (ALS) Ambulance:  A fully staffed ALS crew consists of one paramedic and one EMT and is capable of handling emergencies such as a cardiac or respiratory event.

Dedicated Crew:    An ALS or BLS ambulance and crew that is committed to your event and will not leave to handle other emergencies dispatched by Montgomery County Radio.

Non-Dedicated Crew: An ALS or BLS ambulance that will standby at your event, however, they remain “on status” and will leave to respond to emergencies as dispatched by Montgomery County Radio, and return to your event upon resolution of said emergency.
